Digital Collections From The Library Of Congress Washington Digital The library of congress is the nation's oldest federal cultural institution, and it serves as the research arm of congress. it is also the largest library in the world, with more than 162 million items. the collections include books, sound recordings, motion pictures, photographs, maps, and manuscripts. Gottscho schleisner collection the collection of more than 45,000 items (negatives, transparencies and prints) came to the library of congress in the early 1980s. the online collection provides access to 29,000 negatives and color transparencies . The library of congress online catalog is available at catalog.loc.gov . it is the primary search tool for discovering all types of materials in the library's print and online collections. search results will provide full bibliographic information for each collection item along with the location and call number needed to request and use.
